SEW DAYS

Have you ever wanted to learn to sew? Now is your chance! We are participating in a nationwide initiative to teach people how to sew. It is a 6 week program (you can attend whichever classes you want). Our first class is on July 16th, from 6 pm - 8:30 pm. There is a $5 fee/class and any additional supplies will be available for under $20 per class. We have sewing machines that you can use during your class. Check out our main class page to see all six weeks of projects. Please call 970-565-7541 or come by to sign up!
• Sign up today for 6 one-day classes, beginning the week of July 15th
• You do NOT have to attend week-one to participate in any of the following weeks.
• The class fee is only $5 per session. Kits will be available to purchase.
• Pick and choose the classes you wish to attend.

Open Sewing: Every Monday in July

PLEASE NOTE: Our classroom is getting booked nearly every day with classes or events. Throughout July, Mondays will continue to have Open Sewing from 9-5. There are other times that will be available during the week, but we are requesting you call ahead to check out the schedule. 

OPEN SEWING:
Work on any project you’d like and enjoy the company of other sewists and quilters. Bring your sewing machine or use one of our BERNINA classroom machines. Open Sewing is FREE and you’ll have plenty of space to work and the use of our cutting tables and ironing boards.

You can also call us to check on availability – our classroom is available for your use anytime a class/event is not being held.

Featured Speaker: Dana Jones
Dana E. Jones, a quiltmaker, author, editor and photographer from Gilpin County, Colorado, began quilting almost 20 years ago. She is a former editor of Quilters Newsletter and the SAQA (Studio Art Quilt Associates) Journal; has spoken and taught at quilt guilds, museums and shops across the United States; has written articles and designed patterns for quilt magazines; and is author of Pagtinabangay: The Quilts and Quiltmakers of Caohagan Island. Dana is a member of Quirky Quilters in Nederland and second vice president for programs for Colorado Quilting Council. She has had quilts exhibited at Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum and through the American Quilt Study Group.

Note: Dana will be focusing on her knowledge of the Quilters from Caohagan Island. I have seen this presentation from Dana before, so can safely say you do not want to miss this.

Dana Jones designed and made Peace Cranes Over Hiroshima after a visit to the peace park that is at the epicenter of the World War II atomic bombing site in Hiroshima, Japan. This foundation-pieced quilt is based on an Origami folded peace-crane image from the International Crane Foundation in Baraboo, Wisconsin. Experience with foundation piecing (machine paper piecing) is needed for success making this quilt.

Michelle is a textile artist from Australia. She will be in the United States in August and is a featured guest on the Ricky Tims Show. While in Colorado, Michelle will be coming to Cortez to present two workshops!

This workshop is great for those wanting to learn new techniques and skills in textile arts. You will learn how to paint onto the fabric to create a nice background as well as the foreground picture of the cone flowers. You will also learn some basic quilting techniques and thread work, and to top it off you get to play with some bobbin work.

You will also learn some basic quilting techniques, thread work, and bobbin work.

Below, you will also find the official 2019 Row By Row fabric collection. We love this collection, and have used them in microwave bowls, aprons, place mats and potholders.
