February:

Hopefully we have all survived the cold, the snow, the mud...Phew! Its been a good time to quilt so Im hoping to see some more Bird projects come in this month! The deadline to get them finished is the April 18th meeting so that we know exactly what we will have to display. I can hardly wait to see what amazing birds show up!

I wanted to give A HUGE thank you to Susan for her presentation last month on giving movement to landscape quilts. Her work is so beautiful! I took away some great tips to try to put to use on my next landscape attempt!

At the November meeting several people expressed an interest in exploring quilted postcards and actual postcard quilts, so I thought if anyone has made quilted postcards or has any information about them we could start thinking about that as our next challenge. I will bring some pics off the internet and one that I have done to give you an idea about what they look like. The actual postcard quilts are made of of dozens of the 4 X 6 quilted postcards. I have seen some done in christmas cards that were really beautiful too. So...start thinking about that, and of course any other ideas that you would like us to explore.

A couple of years ago we did an activity called flower pounding. It involves literally pounding flowers into fabric to leave an imprint. I was asked to bring the directions for this again so I will bring them to this meeting and share a couple examples. Its a great way to embellish quilts or to make beautiful vintage looking wall hangings. If you did this activity last time and have samples to share, please bring them!  Its a GREAT stress reliever too!

Please bring any of your work to share, including your birds! If anyone has a skill, or idea that you would like to teach or demo for the group please let me know so we can set it up for a future meeting. See you Feb. 21 at 1pm!

Bobbinwork Demo and Play
Wednesday, February 27, 2019
Demo at Noon, Stay and Play To Follow
No Charge – But Please RSVP
Note: Red Bobbin Cases are 25% Off Until February 28th!
Have you ever sewn with your eyes closed? Bobbinwork (sometimes called bobbin play because it is so much fun!) is a little bit like that because you don’t really see the final result until you stop sewing and turn the fabric over. You stitch on the wrong side of the fabric with heavy thread in the bobbin. No wonder some people call it sewing “upside down!” Bobbinwork is a stunning way to add texture to your stitching, making bold and beautiful embellishments for all types of projects.

2019 QUILTING IN THE RED ROCKS QUILT SHOW

Saturday, March 2nd and Sunday March 3rd

There is nothing like a lot of color to brighten a winter day, and that is just what visitors to Quilting in the Red Rocks Quilt Show will experience!  The Delicate Stitchers Quilt Guild will celebrate its twenty-first anniversary by presenting its tenth biennial quilt show at the Grand Center, 182 N. 500 West, the weekend of March 2 & 3.

Hours are:  Saturday, March 2, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.,

 Sunday, March 3, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Admission, as always, is free!

Close to 200 antique, traditional and art quilts, quilted home décor and wearable art will be on display, along with our beautiful Modern star Opportunity Quilt made by Guild members and expertly quilted by Lou Gostlin. It is queen/king sized.  Tickets for the quilt will be on sale at the show.  Annual challenge quilts will also be on display.

Vendors from Utah, Colorado and New Mexico will offer fabrics, patterns, threads, books and notions. Vendors will be offering demonstrations throughout the two days of the show, so stop by their booths to see what they have to offer. Moab quilter, and Guild member, Sandra Starley, is one of fewer than 100 accredited quilt appraisers in the nation; and one of only two in Utah.  She will be doing quilt appraisals in her booth, for a fee.   Come and enjoy the old and new in quilting!

What do you do with beautiful decorative threads, thin ribbon, or cording that is too thick to fit through the needle of a sewing machine? Turn it upside down, of course! Wind decorative threads, thin ribbon or cording around BERNINA's special Red Bobbinwork Case and sew your project upside down. The top thread will stitch the over-sized threads right to the bottom of the fabric.

If this sounds fun, you will want to check out February's Accessory of the Month and receive 25% off this special bobbin case.
