Quilt Documentation Event

"The Colorado Quilting Council Documentation Project is a statewide effort to document the history of both old and new quilts in Colorado, through oral history interviews, identification of patterns and designs, and photography. The goal is to permanently record the history of the quilts for future generations.

The documentation process registers quilt work into an archive and database for historical preservation of information regarding the maker, owner, materials and patterns of quilted items that "live" in or were created in Colorado. This is not just for older quilts, but also for newer, wonderful work of the many quilters in this state.

The process of documentation involves a photograph of the quilt and completion of an information form, which describes the maker, location, materials and techniques used. Documented quilts are each assigned a unique number, which is recorded in the database along with the information the owner provided. Stories about the quilt's life, awards, mishaps and repairs are all important elements to record.

At a cost of $8 per quilt, owners receive a label with its documentation number to affix to the quilt for future identification, and a booklet containing the photos and printout of the information you provided regarding the quilt. The cost is $5 per quilt for only the registration label".



On Saturday, May 19th, Cortez Quilt Company is hosting one of these documentation events. This is a great opportunity for our local quilters to have their work documented.

A Little Duffle Do It

Enjoy an evening out! This class is created for those of you who work during the day, have young ones at home, or are a night owl. A shop favorite, these cute little zippered pouches look like mini duffle bags. The pattern comes with instructions for four different sizes – all your needs are covered. Tricia will be your instructor.

Tricia will be demoing all the cool serger techniques, along with applications of when, where and why a serger should be one of our best friends. Quilts Without Borders: An Art & Landscape Society

The Blocks Without Borders Quilt Society meets on the Third Thursday of each month at 1 p.m. at Cortez Quilt Company. Bring your Show & Tell, exchange ideas, and give and receive inspiration. No RSVP necessary. This meeting usually lasts about an hour.

Break out your vinyl mesh! We have found a new pattern for a tote, this time with a drawstring closure. Pair it up with a fun fabric, and you are ready to head out for day of shopping, or a day relaxing by the pool – just add your own goodies. Sue Maxwell will be instructing this class.

Bargello Butterfly

If you’ve admired the Bargello Butterfly in the book Quilts Without Corners by Cheryl Phillips, now is your chance to create this work of art. Judith Swain will teach this two-day class which is an intermediate and above project.

BERNINA Software Club

BERNINA Club: Binding Foot Demo and Reversible Apron

Sarah will demonstrate how to use the binding tool – she has mastered a lot of tricks to make this attachment easier to use. After the demo, we encourage everyone to stay to make a reversible apron that is finished with bias binding, and have a chance to use the binding tool themselves.

Embroidery Club

Join us for a full day of embroidering gifts made especially to pamper yourself (or you could give them to another lucky gal for Mother’s Day).
