Mystery Quilt: Modern Meander

Did you miss our event on Saturday? Fear not . . . you can still get in on our current Mystery Quilt.

If you've never done a mystery quilt before, the concept is that you know the size of the quilt and how many fabrics you need when you sign up and receive your first clue. Then each month (this one runs for six months) you receive additional clues. You don't know the layout of the quilt until you get the last clue.

Fabric Requirements

Keep the following in mind when selecting fabrics. In the style of today’s modern quilts, this one has a lot of background fabric (fabric #1) and some of the background pieces are very large. Choose something that does not have a directional print for fabric #1.

Also, consider using many different fabrics for #2, #3, and #4. The yardage given for those fabrics is a very generous estimate of the total fabric that you will need, however, you can use a collection of fat quarters of various fabrics in place of the yardage for more variety.

Fabric #1—Light 4 3/4 yards

Fabric #2—Medium Light 1 1/4 yards

Fabric #3—Medium Dark 1 yard

Fabric #4—Dark 1 1/2 yards

Binding 3/4 yards

Backing 4 yards

Knitting 101

In this class you will learn to cast on, knit and purl, bind off, and start working on a basic ribbed scarf.  In this class you will learn English style (throwing) knitting. Knitting 102

This class builds on what students learned in Knitting 101. Now you take your craft to the next level by learning how to increase and decrease. Bring needles and any leftover yarn from Knitting 101. If you are already proficient in casting on, binding off, and doing knit and purl stitches, you may be admitted directly to Knitting 102. Limited to four students; youth and adults welcome. Anne Worthington will teach this class.

Introduction to Tunisian Crochet

Tunisian Crochet is a needlework technique which combines elements of both crocheting and knitting. In this class, you will learn the basic stitches of Tunisian crochet while making a sampler washcloth. Students should have prior knowledge of basic crochet stitches. Tunisian crochet hook and yarn provided. Sue Maxwell will teach this class.
