Events This Week

Third Thursday Demo: Math for Quilters
Thursday, November 17, 12:30 p.m.

Whether you love or loathe math, doing a bit of it from time to time is necessary if you quilt. In this brief (20 minute) session you'll learn easy ways to calculate fabric requirements for binding, borders, sashing, and backing. Bring a calculator. Aimee will be your guide. We've created a helpful handout for this session.

Art & Landscape Quilting Group
Thursday, November 17, 1:00 p.m.

This interesting and growing group will meet again at Cortez Quilt Company on Thursday, November 17 at 1:00 p.m. If you attended the last event at Gail's house, bring your pounded flowers pieces along with any other Show & Tell you'd like to share. Stay to work on a project after the meeting if you'd like. The classroom is available until 5:30 p.m. Reminder: Entries for our Landscape Challenge are due on November 30.

New Fabric

Another shipment of darling kid's fabric arrived last week. There is a soft book panel that goes with this sea-themed collection. Very cute and good for both boys and girls.

Yarn Department Survey Results

Thanks to the 34 people who responded to our survey about what to offer in 2017 in our Yarn Department

The most requested classes are for socks, cable, and lace knitting. We'll have all of those - and more - on the schedule for next year. Votes were split 50/50 for technique vs. project classes, so we'll continue to offer a mix. A majority of respondents were in favor of knit-a-longs, so we'll also offer those throughout the year.

As far as scheduling, most of those who chimed in prefer classes, knit-a-longs, and sit & stitch sessions during the day, with quite a few requesting Saturdays and Sundays. We'll take that into account as we plan 2017. Based on the survey results, we're putting our Tuesday evening Sit & Stitch on hold for the time being.

If you know at least two other people who want to learn a specific technique or make a certain project, we're happy to offer classes by request. Call or email Anne about scheduling.

Anne will continue to coordinate trunk shows and guest teachers for next year as well. We plan to have roving available at trunk shows for those spinners and felters who requested it.

Thanks again for helping up plan. Watch for a celebration event in April when we arrive at the one-year anniversary of our Yarn Shop.

P. S. If you are interested in teaching for us, please send an email to Anne with ideas.
