Great Quilt Show!

Many thanks to the wonderful members of the Delicate Stitchers quilt guild in Moab for inviting Cortez Quilt Company to be a vendor at their show this past weekend. The event was well-organized, well-attended, and there were some truly amazing quilts on display. I demonstrated the Scrap Crazy ruler all day Saturday and Sunday and it was a big hit. A very fun two days!  ~ Karen

For our March club we’ll make “Scrappy Place Mats.” This pattern shows four variations. For the sample we chose the one featuring half-square triangles and made it using 30s fabric. You’ll be amazed by how easy the scalloped border is to make . . . no binding! Judy Bryan will be your teacher. NOTE: Place Mat Club is an ongoing event but you don't need to be a "member." You can attend every month, just once, once in a while . . . your choice.

Bring your machine, usual supplies, and a walking foot and 1/4″ foot if you have those. Please RSVP to 970-565-7541 no later than Monday, March 23 at 12 noon if you plan to attend. Maximum number of participants for each session will be eight (4 minimum).

You do NOT need to own a BERNINA to attend. All sewists and their beloved machines are welcome!

Tip of the Week: Learn Something New with a Small Project

There is a wealth of information on the internet and - fortunately for those of us who love to quilt and sew - tons of free patterns. We found this one on the We All Sew blog and thought it was worth sharing as an example of how you can - with a very small investment - learn new techniques. We featured our new chalkboard fabric in a recent newsletter. It's different to work with in that you don't want to fold it or put pins in, and you most definitely don't want to iron it! This cute placemat calls for the chalkboard fabric so you get experiment with it, make a pocket, practice using an edge stitch foot, and make and sew on bias binding. If there is a technique you've been thinking about trying, consider how you might jump in with a small project.
