YOU-HAVE-TO-BE-CRAZY IMPROV CLASS
|
You-Have-To-Be-Crazy-Improv Class Thursday/Friday ~ August 24th & 25th 10:30 - 5:00 Special Guest Instructor: Anne Dimit Cost: $120.00 (Not eligible for Class Pass) Anne's Bio:
"I started learning to sew by hand at 8 years old, started making my own clothes in Jr High, and got the quilting bug in my early 30’s. Other education includes an MA in education and many workshops, mostly in sewing and quilting. My work has been displayed across the country, including the Governor’s mansion in Indianapolis IN and Rep Rebecca Dow’s office in Santa Fe NM, as well as several galleries and private homes. How did I get to this place of crazy improv quilt-making? Being left-handed, most tools are upside down and backwards for me. My body never was a standard size and shape, so I learned to make clothes by altering patterns from the start and using all types of fabrics. Pattern directions often didn’t seem to make sense. Growing up under the “waste-not, want-not” generation has left me, to this day, with great delight in turning discards and scraps into something useful and/or pretty. I also have a tendency to dive into new projects and figure out what I’m doing as I go. This means it takes a bit longer to learn, but I figure out what works for me without being inhibited by do’s and don’ts. I had been making quilts for some time before hearing about the 1/4 inch seams and cotton-only rules...... My quilts may contain any type of fabric that is the right color and the seams will be what works for those fabrics. My color rules are: 1)Use what you like. It’s too boring to work with colors that don’t appeal to you. 2) If you spread the colors here and there all over the quilt, they will work together. The same goes for lighter and darker shades. 3) A single splash of a single color will create a definite focal point, which can be useful. Experience has taught me that mistakes almost always lead to a better idea. My philosophy is: Let’s have fun."

June's Recap Happy sizzling Summer sewists! Our June gathering:
• Jolly fine fun continues on the Cliff Palace project and we are definitely getting closer to completion. The panels were "fitted" to one another and the general consensus is that ...it's fabulous! We are still missing a couple and look forward to seeing them in July please. The suspense is killing us! A hearty discussion ensued re: facing techniques and no blood was drawn! Shar offered to design the individual panel labels and Janet offered to write our artists statement. Susan M. will research and report options for hanging the panels. She will also follow up on timing schedules for submission to regional and national shows.
• Discussion of the upcoming Anne Dimit-Buckley Improv class in August. The 2 day class - August 24-25 9:30-4:30 will be $120.00 (due at sign up). I'll resend the photos of some of Annie's work in a separate email but more to come soon.
• Our "Tune Line" challenge is due by our August gathering - or sooner if you like. Any size, and must include the words to a song that you love.
• Lou Ann will be sending out the flowchart and images for the "Telephone Tag" project starting in September for 5 months. We start in teams of 5. Each person number 1 creates a 13 x13 unfinished block and sends a photo of it to person # 2 who makes a 13 x 13 of their interpretation of the image they received from #1 and so on.
• Marty will ask Sandy C if she will demo or teach her crayon class for us - maybe in July if possible.
• Our next gathering is on July 20th - 1:00 p.m. at Quilters Haven ~Judith
