Drum Roll, Please!

The results of our table runner pattern writing contest are in. The entries received a total of 147 votes during the month of July and the top three vote-getters were Gail Braunn, Pam Peters, and Melanie Rime. Congratulations! It was a tight contest with all eight entries receiving many votes. Thanks to all who participated. Gail, Pam, and Melanie all receive a $50 CQC gift certificate. In September - after our staff has made up all three runners following the patterns - we will announce the grand prize winner. That designer will receive a gift basket full of quilting goodies and the option to have their pattern sold at Cortez Quilt Company.

New Frequent Shopper Loyalty Program!

We're happy to announce a NEW and improved frequent shopper loyalty program that begins on Friday, August 8, 2014. Here are answers to questions that we're sure some of you will have. If you have other questions, we're here to answer them.

How does it work?
You will have a card in a box at the shop that has six empty boxes on it. Each time you shop, your total purchase amount (before tax) will be written into one of the boxes. When you fill all six boxes you'll receive 5% of the total of your six boxes in store credit. A gift card for that amount will appear in your mail box shortly after you fill your card and earn your credit.

What merchandise qualifies for credit?
Full price merchandise including fabric, notions, patterns, books, gift-type items, Sew-Steady acrylic tables, and sewing machine accessories (bobbins, presser feet, etc.). We are adding classes and sewing machine repairs/service/parts to the list of what qualifies for credit (those were previously excluded). You will NOT earn credit for sewing machines, sewing room furniture, clearance/sale items, finished store samples, or when using a discount card or coupon.

Can I fill a box when a friend from out of town shops with me?
Yes. That's another new advantage to this loyalty program. If you have a friend or relative visiting and they shop in the store, at your request we will fill one of your boxes with their purchase amount. The only restriction is that they must live more than 150 miles from Cortez. If they live closer they'll no doubt want their own card.

What happens to the points I already have?
They will be transferred over to the new program. For example, if you currently have 180 points, $180 will be entered into your first box. As an added bonus, the first time your shop with us on or after August 8 and we transfer your points into the new program, we'll automatically check off a second box so that you're one step closer to getting your first gift card in the mail.

What about expiration dates?
In the old system if you didn't shop for a full year your point balance automatically went to zero. Not so with the new program, which is great news for our seasonal customers. Once you have a card in the box it stays in the box. In addition, the gift cards you receive in the mail never expire.

What can I use my gift card for?
Gift cards may be used for anything we sell, including sale/clearance merchandise, sewing machines, and furniture. Redeem your cards as soon as you receive them or save them up for a large purchase. You are responsible for keeping up with your cards and they MUST be present to redeem.

So, that's the new program. We are very excited about it and we hope you'll enjoy filling your boxes and finding gift cards in your home mail box on a regular basis. As always, thank you for supporting your local, independent quilt shop!

Presser Foot Special

The foot on special this month from BERNINA is #46 which is the Pintuck and Decorative Stitch foot. This foot is designed to combine decorative stitched with pintucks. The pintucks are sewn first, then decorative stitching up to 9 mm wide may be sewn between the pintucks. The clear sole provides a perfect view of the stitching area. The regular price of this foot is $42. During August take 25% off and pay only $31.50! Call 970-565-7541 to order this foot today!

Display Model Sale!

We will periodically offer special pricing on some of our BERNINA display models. These machines have been used for demos since March and come with full warranties. Here's what we have available starting today. The special pricing is good only through August 15, 2014 and we have only ONE of each of these machines available.

BERNINA 1008 - The classic mechanical machine. No bells and whistles and built to last!

BERNINA 550QE - This Quilter's Edition comes with the exclusive BERNINA stitch regulator for free motion quilting, a walking foot, 1/4 inch foot, free-hand system, 434 stitch patterns, a semi-automatic needle threader, and many other wonderful features.

BERNINA 820 QE - Need a lot of room to sew and quilt? This Quilter's Edition has 12 inches to the right of the needle! It also features 1,764 stitch patterns, sews at 1,100 stitches per minutes, has a 9 mm stitch width for beautiful decorative stitching, integrated dual feed (no walking foot needed), free-hand system, FULLY automatic needle threader, and automatic thread cutter. The extra large bobbin holds 80% more thread than a standard one. 30 LED lights makes your sewing area so visible you'll be tempted to sew in the dark!

Click on the links above to learn more about these machines, including the manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP). The prices we are offering during this limited-time special are lower than we are allowed by BERNINA to advertise. Come by the shop for a demonstration and more information. Sorry, but we cannot quote prices over the phone.

Introducing the #97 Presser Foot

This was the "big reveal" at the national BERNINA dealer meeting last month. It was delivered to the presenter on stage in a blue Tiffany's box by the owner of BERNINA who had flown in from Switzerland. As soon as we all figured out what it was there was a round of applause. It's a patchwork foot for the 9 mm machines that makes 1/4 and 1/8 inch seams more precisely as you sew with the wide feed dog on the 560 and the 7 & 8 series machines. Very cool. Click here to read more and watch a video demo.
