The Quiltzette

August 9, 2013

We're two years old!

Cortez Quilt Company turns two on August 15th. Where does the time go?! We're celebrating this milestone by giving our valued customers DOUBLE frequent shopper points on August 15, 16, and 17 (Thursday, Friday and Saturday). Frequent shopper points are good on all full-priced merchandise except for sewing room furniture, finished items, gift certificates, and classes.

Not a member of our frequent shopper system yet? This would be a great time to join in. You receive 5 points for every $5 spent (rounded down, before tax) and when you get to 325 you get a $25 store credit. Just accumulate points at least once a year to keep your account active. No card to carry . . . we keep track of your points at the shop.

Holiday fabric is here!

Congratulations to Kathy Barminski, Corrina Gray, Carol Foth, Mary Ekstrom, and Judi Swain. They each won a $20 CQC gift certificate during our Christmas in July celebration. If you didn't make it in for the event when we unveiled all of our holiday fabric, here's a peek (but of course images don't do it justice). Come in to see what we received for this year, along with the samples we've been busy making.

We've upgraded our website

It may not look all that different from the prior version, but our updated website just went live and we're now selling kits and gift certificates online. Those of you who live nearby can check the site to see new kits we have in stock as we add them and come by the store to purchase. For our out-of-town customers, you can now order quickly and safely online. We'll be adding additional features to the site soon, so check it out regularly to see what's new, including the latest class offerings, upcoming events, and sales. www.cortezquiltcompany.com . . . for all your quilting needs and wants!

Featured kits online

As we add new kits for online shopping, we'll post them here in the newsletter. Two that we have in stock now that are new and on our "best seller" list are the Calliope table topper which uses Cheryl Phillips' newest ruler and Twister Jack, a fun Halloween wall hanging. Both of these kits include backing fabric. Check them out here.

Upcoming Classes

Flatty Dog or Cat
Friday, August 23

Make a flatty dog, flatty cat, or whole family of household pets using a jellyroll or charm squares. Stuff these little darlings to bring them to life and bring joy to any animal lover. These make great gifts for kids and adults alike and flatty dogs and cats never need to be fed, walked, let outside, or taken to the vet! Class taught by Karen Childress.

“Anywhere” Fall Table Runner
Saturday, August 24

This beautiful runner is from the new book Runners Rock which includes a wide array of projects. We’ve chosen this one to make for the upcoming fall season. The original pattern makes a smallish runner, but Cindy Dahl who will teach the class, is adapting it to use 2 1/2 inch strips which will make it quite a bit larger. You can choose to make either size. This project involves both piecing and applique.

Toes in the Sand
SIX First Fridays - September 6, October 4, November 1, December 6, January 5, February 2
September 6th - 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. (1 p.m. - 5 p.m. each subsequent month)
This series is FREE with purchase of book, ruler, and fabric

Toes in the Sand uses the new, popular Hex N More ruler and we're structuring this class sort of like a block of the month. The class will meet on the first Friday of each month for six months and during each session you'll make two different blocks (two of each). At the end of the six months, you'll have all of the blocks you need to assemble a beautiful 64" x 84" quilt that, depending on the fabrics you choose, can have either a traditional, modern, or elegant look.

NEW . . . receive 10% off when you finish a bolt!

We're changing our end-of-bolt reward program so that now everyone who finishes a bolt is a winner. Finish any bolt of full-price fabric and receive 10% off of that entire fabric purchase. This discount applies whether you buy one yard of fabric or fifteen yards!

 Mark your calendar . . .

Silverton's Colorfest Quilt Show and Sale will be held on September 7 & 8 at the Silverton School.

New Notions!

We're always on the lookout for new products that will make your life easier (or just more fun!). Here are some of the notions that we've added to the shelves recently. We're also always happy to do special orders for anything that we don't keep in stock on a routine basis.

The battery-operated Quick Ripper by Michelle Watts is one of those "you have to try it" items. We'll pass it around for everyone to try out on Demo Day next Thursday, or stop by the shop anytime to rip out a seam or two and you'll be amazed. $28.50.

Sweet Dreams is a 100% cotton stuffing made of soft dreamy layers of fluffy natural cotton. A crafters dream for stuffing, pot holders, pillows, padding, upholstery, and trapunto. One-pound bag is $9. We got this in to make the Flatty Dogs and Cats.

Dritz removable tape in a handy dispenser is great for marking rulers, fabric, and more. One-half inch wide, 5 yards on the roll, only $6.99.

The new Perfect Scissors are, well, perfect! The micro serrated blade is what makes them special. Cuts easily through several layers of fabric and helps reduce fraying. Handy size with large openings for your fingers make these scissors very comfortable to use. $29.

A customer told us about Mistyfuse and it sounded great so we ordered a few packages to try it out. It's a paperless fusible web that's very shear and bonds firmly to many types of fabric once it has cooled. Doesn't gum up your scissors or needles. Package is 20 inches by 2.5 yards, $9.50.

As always, thank you for supporting Cortez Quilt Company, your local independent quilt shop.
