Our October meeting will be “Paper dolls” by Virginia Robertson. Create your own fun action figure.

Our next challenge is simply “BIRD” so anything, any size and creation that speaks of bird to you! Completion by January meeting.

If you would like to display your “Water” challenge piece at the Cortez Cultural Center, please bring that to the 9.20.18 meeting. And bring a brief description of your work and inspiration.  ~ Judith

NEW BOOKS

I just found this amazing free-motion book, complete with ten elaborate quilting designs which provide the framework for free-motion wholecloth quilting. This book also has a large gallery for inspiration.

Our art & landscape society, Blocks Without Borders, plans their next challenge to be "birds". This book should provide plenty of ideas. Stitched Textiles is a  practical and inspiring guide to producing textile birds using Rachel Sumner’s colorful composition and stitching techniques. Readers will find six beautiful step-by-step projects and galleries of inspirational pieces that are vibrant, contemporary, and beautifully executed.

Master scrap quilter and Instagram sensation Susan Ache shares her secrets for creating gorgeous, colorful scrap quilts with Jelly Rolls - those irresistible slices of 2-1/2in fabric strips. Instead of using pre-bundled Jelly Rolls as they come, Susan sorts her strips by color, mixing and matching Jelly Roll strips to the max. The scrappy effects are nothing short of sensational! Once quilters learn Susan's tricks for sorting their strips, they'll discover the freedom to make strip quilts without fear of choosing colors or prints that do not mingle well - and what a feeling of freedom that will be! Jelly Rolls are at the peak of popularity and quilters need pretty patterns to use up all the strips they are accumulating. Susan's unique way of working with pre-cuts will appeal to quilters who own fabric from the entire pre- cut family: fat quarters, charm squares, layer cakes, and more.
With sizes from large lap to bed sized quilts, these are colorful, comfortable quilts with a style that will appeal to all. 80 pages.
