Art and Landscape Group Meets ThursdayThe A&L (art and landscape) Quilt Group meets regularly on the third Thursday of each month at 1 p.m. at Cortez Quilt Company. Bring your Show & Tell, exchange ideas, and give and receive inspiration. No RSVP necessary. This meeting usually lasts about an hour.

Scissor Sharpening This SaturdayBarry and Diana Owen from Columbine Sharpening in Durango will be here again on Saturday, October 21 to sharpen your scissors, kitchen knives, and garden clippers. You may bring your items in this Saturday between 9:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. and have them sharpened while you shop. Or, drop them off any time this week and pick them up on Saturday afternoon. If you drop your items off ahead of time, please put them in a bag with your name and phone number inside. Cash or check only for this service, please.

New FabricWe received some "onesies" last week. These are bolts we pick and choose when the fabric reps come calling, usually fun prints for our novelty section. Bright, beautiful poppies.

We’re working our way through the year creating these adorable raw-edge applique wall hangings. Make them with or without the month at the bottom. These fit perfectly in the small wire stands. With the month added to the bottom, the finished size is 12 x 16. Join anytime . . . you can backtrack and make the earlier months or make them later as each month rolls around.

Beaded Christmas Ornaments Saturday, October 28, 2017 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. $42, includes all supplies Learn to knit with beads and make a Christmas ornament for yourself and one for a gift. This ornament is knit in the round and stuffed with fiberfill. Price of the class includes pattern, one hank of yarn, fiberfill, and beads. You will need to bring a set of #2, #3, or # 4 size dpns. The hanger can be crocheted using a B or C crochet hook or an I-cord can be knitted. Dana Jensen will teach this class.

Cabled Mitts Thursday, November 2, 2017 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. $19 Cold hands, warm heart? Warm up your hands with these cabled fingerless mitts. Learn to knit cables and knit in the round using double-pointed needles in this class. You will need worsted weight yarn and double-pointed needles to provide a gauge of 8 sts per inch in K2 P2 rib pattern. Must know how to cast on, bind off, knit and purl. Go beyond store-bought piping and make your own using the right tools. Piping can be used to emphasize style lines, add support for heavily used areas, and as a decorative trim. Learn the tips and tricks for creating and working with different sizes of piping and the secrets to tightly inserted piping. Use what you learn to make “Cindy’s Sewing Caddie”. . . a soft mat for your machine to sit on that keeps your most-used tools in a handy spot right in front of you. Piping adds color and interest to this useful must-have item for your sewing room or to bring to classes.
