Dana E. Jones, a quiltmaker, author, editor and photographer from Gilpin County, Colorado, began quilting almost 20 years ago. She is a former editor of Quilters Newsletter and the SAQA (Studio Art Quilt Associates) Journal; has spoken and taught at quilt guilds, museums and shops across the United States; has written articles and designed patterns for quilt magazines; and is author of Pagtinabangay: The Quilts and Quiltmakers of Caohagan Island. Dana is a member of Quirky Quilters in Nederland and second vice president for programs for Colorado Quilting Council. She has had quilts exhibited at Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum and through the American Quilt Study Group.

Note: Dana will be focusing on her knowledge of the Quilters from Caohagan Island. I have seen this presentation from Dana before, so can safely say you do not want to miss this.

Dana Jones designed and made Peace Cranes Over Hiroshima after a visit to the peace park that is at the epicenter of the World War II atomic bombing site in Hiroshima, Japan. This foundation-pieced quilt is based on an Origami folded peace-crane image from the International Crane Foundation in Baraboo, Wisconsin. Experience with foundation piecing (machine paper piecing) is needed for success making this quilt.

Michelle is scheduled to be in the USA to tape on the Ricky Tims’ Show… and will be here at Cortez Quilt Company and More to teach! This class features creating your own piece of art from a white piece of fabric and some paint. the cone flowers are painted on making this a whole cloth design. Michelle will explain how to use the textile paints and non-textile paints and show how to divide up your background area and create interesting designs on your art piece.

This workshop is great for those wanting to learn new techniques and skills in textile arts. You will learn how to paint onto the fabric to create a nice background as well as the foregound picture of the cone flowers. Students will also learn some basic quilting techniques and thread work, anto to top it off play with some bobbinwork.

Michelle created this project after a local bush fire burnt through her property. She noticed the damage left behind, along with the amazing colors that were in the sky. All this led to creating this great piece of art.

This workshop is great for those wanting to learn new techniques and skills in textile arts. You will learn how to mix your paints and how to apply them to fabric. You will learn how to paint onto the fabric to create a nice background creating a starting point for your thread work. You will also learn some basic quilting techniques, thread work and bobbin work.

Ila is definitely in demand, especially for a repeat class for this tote. The Professional Tote has all the pockets and compartments needed for today’s professional woman. Whether you work in an office or not, this tote has it all. There is a pleated pocket on each side of the tote to hold a bottle of water, umbrella, magazine, baby bottle or telephone. Also, on the front is a zippered pocket to hold your ID and Passport for your airport travel. Behind that pocket is one for your boarding pass. Even though this class is not until November, sign up early…. we already some of the slots filled!

Class Policies

Classes are limited to 6-8 students (minimum of three) depending on the complexity of the project.

Class fees must be paid and any required pattern/book/notions must be purchased in advance to hold your space.

Store credit will be given for paid classes if you cancel and give 48 hours notice (otherwise, no credit). Refund or store credit (your choice) given for classes if we cancel due to lack of sign ups.

Bring your sewing machine and basic sewing supplies (scissors, seam ripper, straight pins, etc.) to class. If you prefer, you may use one of our BERNINA classroom machines. We request that you use either Mettler or Aurafil thread on classroom machines.

Bring lunch (we have a fridge and microwave) or order out from one of the many fine restaurants on Main Street. Coffee, tea, water, and soft drinks are complimentary.

It is important to be on time for class. We recommend that you arrive 10 minutes before the class start time. If you arrive earlier please be aware that your instructor will not be available until the class begins.

Please do not park on Main Street in front of the shop when you are here for a class.

Please silence your cell phone while in class. If you need to make a phone call during class, we ask that you step outside or to the back of the store where it’s quiet so that other students are not distracted.

Youth classes are for students 8-16 years of age. Youth members may take the adult classes with instructor approval.

Except for nursing infants up to 12 months of age, children may not attend classes with parents.
