The Quiltzette

August 29, 2013

Thank you!

Thanks to everyone who came to the shop on and around our two-year anniversary to wish us well. We loved hearing "Happy Birthday" and being reminded that we are now in our "Terrible Twos." Who knows what this next year might bring. Hopefully no toddler tantrums . . . only more fun and creativity!

The past two years have been amazing, thanks to YOU! We realize that you have choices about where to shop for fabric and other quilting supplies. The fact that you continue to choose Cortez Quilt Company has allowed us to expand our inventory, offer a wide variety of classes, and host events like the Sewing Room Tour last May.

We are constantly looking for new and better ways to serve our customers and we welcome your ideas. Cortez Quilt Company is your local, independent quilt shop and we appreciate you more than words can express. We look forward to supporting you in all of your creative quilting endeavors for many years to come.  ~ Karen

NOTE: We will be closed on Labor Day - Monday, September 2nd

So much new fabric has arrived!

Beautiful fall flannel was delivered this week. It's from MODA so you know the quality is great. A few more bolts will arrive today or tomorrow to complete the collection.

P. S. We've moved some of last season's flannel to the clearance area!

This collection is such an interesting colorway . . . unlike anything we've had recently. Stop by to see the table runner we made using this elegant fabric.

Fishing, anyone?

Soft, adorable baby collection. Check out the little peas and carrots!

This bright collection of owl prints will please the young, the old, and everyone in between.

This large collection of lovely country-colored paisley prints arrived recently. It's going fast!

A 15-piece collection of lightweight denim made its premier at Spring Quilt Market in Portland. Finally, we couldn't resist and ordered the entire group. A few bolts are on back order and should arrive soon. This high-quality, versatile fabric is 54 inches wide. Endless possibilities!

We're experimenting with carrying some fleece to see how it goes. We have these pieces in, plus three more in the baby room. 60 inches wide and very cuddly for the back of a quilt.

Upcoming Classes

Adalynne’s Garden
Saturday, September 7

A special template makes what looks like a complicated project manageable for most skill levels. Choose 8 to 10 lights and 8 to 10 darks to make this stunning 63 x 77 quilt. Note the pieced border. Class taught by Cyndi Foote.

Free Motion Quilting
Saturday, September 14

Lesli St. John will teach how to do free motion quilting on your own machine. She says the secret to a good outcome is “slow hands, fast needle.” If you’re ready to venture beyond stitch-in-the-ditch, this is the class for you! Bring sewing gloves (we have them in stock if you don’t own a pair) and at least four 14 x 14″ fabric sandwiches (muslin on two sides with batting in the middle) and contrasting thread.

If the Hat Fits – Halloween Quilt
Saturday, September 21

Guest teacher Beth Cordozo will teach the “Stack and Slash” technique used to make this whimsical Halloween quilt. The required book is by The Buggy Barn and includes other adorable projects in addition to this one. This class is for quilters who are intermediate and beyond in skill level. Limited to six students so call or stop by the shop soon to sign up!

Do you use Electric Quilt?

If you use Electric Quilt software to design your own quilts and would like to be part of an informal users group, send an e-mail to [email protected] with your name and phone number. If there are enough people interested we'll share the list among users so that you can connect to share and learn together. (P. S. We carry this software at the shop if you are interested in owning it. The latest version is EQ7 and it's pretty cool!).

Look what Cyndi Foote finished making yesterday! Too cute. It's a playhouse for kids that fits over a standard card table. It's lined and has windows and a roll-up door. Come check it out . . . it's in our baby/children room. The pattern is in stock.

As always, thank you for supporting Cortez Quilt Company, your local independent quilt shop.
