2018 International Quilt Festival

We're home! Todd and Aimee spent the last few days down in Houston for Fall Quilt Market. As you can see from the picture above - this is a huge market filled with every vendor imaginable in the quilting/sewing industry. We are very excited to show you all of our "finds" over the next couple of months. You are going to be as excited as we are!

In addition to Fall Market, the International Quilt Festival was being set up.

"The International Quilt Festival is the largest annual quilt show in the U.S. and takes place each fall in Houston, Texas. Festival regularly attracts 55,000 people from over 35 countries all around the world. There’s shopping at more than 1,000 booths for quilts, fabric, supplies, and crafts, along with 550 classes and lectures for all experience levels. Festival features more than 1,600 quilts and unique works of textile art on display

NATIONAL TIE ONE ON DAY

Cortez Quilt Company and More is excited to join forces with The Fabric Shop Network, who is proud to be a national sponsor of National Tie One on Day. On the day before Thanksgiving, women across the country will be celebrating the day by wrapping a loaf of bread, a pie, or another dessert in an apron, tucking a prayer or a note of encouragement in the pocket, and then delivering the bundle to someone in need of physical or spiritual sustenance—or both. What could be nicer than receiving such a gift—and handmade at that?

National Tie One On Day is the perfect opportunity for
quilt and fabric shops to join in on a national charitable activity. It’s a great way to encourage customers to put a little give into Thanksgiving by reaching out to share their skills with someone who could use a kind word, a pat on the back, and a tasty treat for Thanksgiving.

We are so excited to be a part of this national program to bring a little cheer to someone by sewing them an apron, and then wrapping a loaf of bread,  apie, or some other dessert in it. Come sew your gift for your special recipient. If you know someone in our quilting community that could especially use some cheer, please call Cortez Quilt Company and More to put them on our list. We will then help deliver these gifts the day before Thanksgiving. For more info, be sure to call us!

Update: Battle Rock 4H Club has joined in on this project. They will be helping provide desserts to be delivered with the aprons. Please call us to let us know if you plan to bring an apron, or to participate in the sew along classes. Also call now if you know of someone who we could deliver to.
