The Quiltzette

September 12, 2016

September Demos
Thursday, September 15, 12:30 p.m.
AND Saturday, September 17, 9:00 a.m.

For our September Demo Aimee King will give a presentation of how to design your sewing space so that you can work at your cutting table and sewing machine with greater comfort. In a past life Aimee taught “back school” for the physical therapy department at Southwest Memorial Hospital. If you have issues with neck or back discomfort while sewing, you won’t want to miss this discussion. Join us on either Thursday, 9/15 at 12:30 or on Saturday, 9/17 at 9 a.m. when the presentation will be repeated.

Mystery Quilt

Begin on or anytime after September 10, 2016 when the first clue is handed out. Five remaining clues will be available on or after the 10th of each month through February, 2017. We’ll have a Big Reveal gathering for all participants in May, 2016.

Fabrics required for 69” x 87” (twin) quilt:
#1 — Light, 4 1/4 yards
#2 — Medium, 2 1/2 yards
#3 — Dark, 2  yards
Binding — 1 yard of #3 (dark)

Optional border to make quilt into full/queen — 2 5/8 yards.

Hint: The twin size has a narrow light border.

This would be a good quilt for an additional pieced border. If you choose to do this purchase an extra yard of each of the three fabrics.

Backing for twin size — 5 1/4 yards
Backing for double/queen — 8 1/4 yards

Contrast is very important for this quilt. All three fabrics should have a definite difference in value and/or color in order for the pattern to emerge. Avoid directional fabrics.

Cost to play: $20 or FREE with purchase of fabric for your mystery quilt top from Cortez Quilt Company. If you live out of town and want to play just give us a call. We can mail you monthly clues.

Update your table with a runner and/or placemats while learning to piece and quilt as you go. You do not need to own a BERNINA to attend club. You can use one of our classroom machines. Call 970-565-7541 or email Cindy to reserve your space for this event.

New Notion: RFID Fabric

Credit card theft is rampant, but you can protect yourself by lining your handmade wallets and card cases with RFID fabric. It's 99.99% effective using blocking radio waves in keeping thieves from accessing your personal information. Easy to sew and light weight -- won't add bulk to your wallet, tote, or card case. We have it packaged in fat eights (9" x 22") for only $3.99.

New Fabric

This beautiful, elegant black/white/taupe collection arrived this morning. The fabric is so soft. Great quality.

And we received a few more bolts to add to our Australian collection today as well.
