Third Thursday and Saturday Demo: Quilt Binding

For February we're going back to basics with a demo on quilt binding. We've done this before but it's been a long time and we have lots of new quilters and others who have returned to the craft recently. On Thursday, February 18 at 12:30 p.m. and again on Saturday, February 20 at 9:00 a.m. we will demonstrate how to cut, piece, press, and sew on binding that can then be finished either by hand or by machine. Our demos are always free. Bring and friend and join us!

New Fabric

This bright, fun collection arrived late last week. You won't doze off at your machine while working with this!

We also received a new line of blenders. Here are three from the collection. There are 14 colors total. Really nice fabric.

And today these darling batik boxes arrived. There are five 1/2 yard cuts in each round, re-usable, batik-covered box. Great gift for your favorite quilter!

Successful Food Drive

Thanks to everyone who contributed to our food drive to benefit the Good Samaritan Center, and congratulations to Ann Sam who won the drawing for a $50 Cortez Quilt Company gift certificate. We collected well over 200 food items this year that we'll deliver to the food bank tomorrow. We appreciate your generosity!

Tip of the Week: Pin Basting

This is an excellent tutorial on how to pin baste prior to machine quilting. It's from the BERNINA blog We All Sew. Click here to read and view. It includes 24 color photos and step by step directions. Be sure to sign up to receive We All Sew posts as they come out. They're really well done.

We carry the curved pins referenced in the tutorial and also recommend using the Kwik Klip™ tool shown here when pin basting. Kwik Klip™ ends sore fingers and reduces basting time. With Kwik Klip™, safety pins close effortlessly, preventing broken nails, stuck fingers, and the familiar painful indentations in fingers caused by closing hundreds of safety pins.
