Third Thursday Demo - Infinity Scarf

Mark your calendar for Thursday, December 19 when Cyndi Foote will demonstrate how to make an Infinity Scarf. We'll have some cuddly new fabric in before the day of the demo and these scarves are so fast and easy to make that you'll have plenty of time to whip up a few for holiday gift-giving. Join us every Third Thursday at 12:30 p.m. for an informative and fun demo!

Quilts Make Wonderful Gifts

But as a quilter, you already knew that, right? We make all of our own samples for the shop and since we have only so much space, once sample quilts are no longer needed  to promote a class or showcase fabric we sell them at very reasonable prices. If you're looking for a quality, custom quilt for someone special this holiday season, visit us in downtown Cortez or shop online. Shipping is FREE on orders of $100 or more.

Come by the shop to fill out a holiday Wish List, let us know who to notify that you've made your list, and you'll be entered to win a $50 gift certificate. We all love getting gift certificates, but how about a Tailormade sewing or cutting table, Electric Quilt software to design your own quilts, membership to our Class Club (unlimited classes for a full year!), a Tutto sewing machine case, or a basket full of thread and fat quarters? Free gift wrapping is available through the holiday season!

How much fabric do I need?

We're always here to help you calculate how much fabric you need for your boarders and binding (or anything else, for that matter), but what if you're ready to add a border to put on a binding at home and have the perfect fabric in your stash? But do you have enough ? Here's how to quickly find out . . . BEFORE your start cutting up valuable fabric!

1. Measure your quilt top. Let's say it's a throw . . . 50" x 68" inches. Add 50 + 50 + 68 + 68. That's all four sides of your top. Total = 236 inches.

2. Divide 236 by 42 (width of fabric once selvedges are cut off). The answer is 5.6 which means you need SIX strips of fabric to go all the way around your quilt. If it's at all close, add one strip since you're most likely sewing the strips together end-to-end using a 45 degree angle which eats up a few extra inches.

3. Multiple the number of strips you need by the size you plan to cut your border or binding. For example, if you want a 4" finished boarder you'll cut your strips 4 1/2 inches. So multiple 6 x 4.5 and you'll get 27 inches. That's 3/4 yard. Do you have enough? Hope so!

Sewing Room Furniture Special is Ongoing Through Year-End!

Is new sewing room furniture on your wish list? If so,  you can sweeten the gift by making your purchase before the end of the year. Take home a Tailormade Quilter's Vision Sewing Table and Companion Chest and you'll take home a one-year Class Club membership right along with it. Purchase the slightly smaller Eclipse sewing table and enjoy a Gingher rotary cutter as our gift to you. Buy one of the fabulous, functional Cutting Tables and your bonus present will be new pair of Gingher 8" shears. Just think of what you'll create with your new tools! Visit this page on the CQC website to for more information and photos of all of the Tailormade pieces. Remember, this special offer is good through the end of the year only, so act fast!

Are you a member of our frequent shopper program?

We reward our regular customers with a frequent shopper program. Here’s how it works. For every $5 you spend (rounded down and before tax) you receive 5 points. When you get to 325 points you get a $25 store credit. To keep your account active you must accumulate points at least once a year, otherwise the point clock resets to zero. Points accumulate on full-priced merchandise only (not clearance or sale items, classes, finished items, sewing room furniture, or when you’re using some other discount or coupon). No card to carry . . . we keep track of your points in our computer system. Happy shopping!
