This month we’ll demonstrate the Rapid Fire Lemoyne Star ruler. No templates or Y-seams, and yet you end up with a complex looking quilt that’s practically error-proof, since you make the blocks over-sized and trim them down to the exact size. Finished blocks using this ruler range from 3″ to 12″ in size.

Love your cat or dog? Know someone else who loves their furry companion? Join instructor Cindy Dahl for this fun evening class and make one of these cute collars. We didn’t do it on this sample, but if you’d like to use one of our machines to embroider your pet’s name and phone number on the collar that would be a bonus feature. Depending on how quickly you sew you might end up making two or three collars (you know your pet needs a different collar for each holiday season, right?) or make a matching mini-tote to carry your phone, keys, and doggie bags when walking the pup. Make this quilt in a day – really! The 1600″ Strip Quilt is fast and fun and a great project for beginning quilters. Frixion Pen Warning

We like Frixion pens and use them daily at the shop. Mark your fabric and the lines disappear when you touch them with a hot iron. However, recently we used a black Frixion pen on light blue batik and after ironing a faint white line remained. With this in mind we now recommend that if you intend to use a Frixion pen on fabric that will be visible in a finished project that you TEST the pen on the fabric first. If you have ANY doubt use an alternate marker. We will continue to carry Frixion pens as they are very nice to use for temporary marking (for example, when making half square triangles), but use them for other purposes at your own risk.

Tip of the Week: Perfect Circles

We ordered these recently for LaWana Ferrier's hand applique class. They were a big hit with students. Here's a short video on how to use this wonderful product.

In the original Perfect Circles package you get 4 each of 15 sizes from 7/16" to 2", plus a ring to store the circles and detailed instructions for hand or machine applique. The Bigger Perfect Circles package contains 2 each of 10 different sizes ranging from 2 1/4" to 4 1/2". We have both in stock.
